New BMW Motorrad MP3 Compatible Bluetooth Helmet

Ride motorcycles and communicate with the world it’s never be easier. The BMW Motorrad WCS-1 System 5 helmet contains a Bluetooth headset embedded inside of the helmet. The helmet is compatible with phone headset profiles as well as the audio A2DP, compatible with upcoming Bluetooth MP3 players. Three external buttons allow you to switch the device on and control the volume.
This is a regular biker helmet, with Bluetooth support. This means that if the person in the back of the bike wants to speak to the person up front, this can easily be done without the removal of helmets. As long as the two riders are 30 feet or closer, communication should be very effective. The interior of the System 5 Helmet features two built in microphones for easy communication, while the outside has a simple 3 button layout, allowing simple navigation. It can be hooked up to any Bluetooth enabled cell phone for wireless communication while you’re flying down the highway. You can also potentially hook up the System 5 helmet to an MP3 player and listen to raging tunes as you fly down the road. The Helmet has been tested to work at speeds of over 90 MPH, so going too fast shouldn’t be a factor. Price for this entire package?? US 910.00. Go buy a new helmet.

I have the WCS-1 and have been using it for over 12 months. It works great with the phone but getting music has been a problem - until now. The helmet supports A2DP bluetooth headphone profile. I tested it with some bluetooth dongles but found they had a short battery life and didn’t reconnect properly after taking a phone call. Just bought a Samsung YP-T9B bluetooth MP3 player. All problems solved. The MP3 player connects to the helmet in stereo. Helmet turns off the headphone profile when a call comes in and the the MP3 player is smart enough to keep trying to reconnect and re-establishes connection after the call. Helmet battery life is a bit low when using with MP3 player as its on all the time - equivalent of 3 hrs phone call. I’ve got about 3hrs reliably - but am looking at an on bike charger or something. I’ve surfed the net for ages trying to find what can work and not many have succeeded. If you want two way radio comms through the helmet you should look at albrecht BPA100. It uses headset profile just like a phone would. Problem is this wont work with phone at same time but solution is to use a wired phone headset into BPA100 along with radio.
The WCS-1 works with the Samsung YP-T9B MP3 player. Just dont use the helmet in heavy rain. I understand BMW have withdrawn the WCS-1 from the market due to technical issues with water.
Too bad if you wanted a second helmet for an intercom any time soon.
This is a great gadget. Hopefully this post will help others looking for MP3 connection to the WCS-1 bluetooth helment
