We have seen many different cellular phone concepts trying to hit and get a fraction of the mobile market, like watches with integrated mobile phones, or pen phones that you never saw on the streets like the Haier P7 or the Siemens PenPhone. I believe the new Pen Phone concept will hit the market with a success guaranteed.

Designed to be used with Bluetooth headset, the device uses the two ends of the pen as a receiver and an earpiece, so you could use the pen like a regular phone. For quick storage, the Pen Phone will support microSD memory cards.

The device also has a tiny display screen, for the caller’s ID and a series of buttons found in the entire length of the pen phone. They probably will work very well when typing phone numbers, but it will not be an easy job to type text messages or adding new contacts do the phone’s memory.

No release date or price are available.

Samsung recently announced their fist GPS equipped smartphone, the Samsung i550. The device is based on Symbian OS v9.2, S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 1. The phone will be a high-end 3G-enabled device sporting most features that you can find on the newest phone today. HSDPA (3.6 Mbps) and EDGE handle data transfer on the tri-band (GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz) device, with Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP supported here) and USB 2.0. The phone will have a 2.6″ 262K-color display with QVGA resolution. Also we can find a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus and flash, as well an FM radio. Again, the OS, as expected, is Symbian 9.2 using the S60 v3.1 user interface, which allows customization using the huge variety of Symbian applications available. The Samsung i550 features 150MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot.
The phone’s GPS navigator function features voice activated turn-by-turn guidance, and a pedestrian mode that offers specific locations and directions at walking speeds.
The device will be released in November 2007 but no information about pricing was released.

Sony Ericsson tonight announced the hipper brother to the M600 messaging phone announced last week. The W950 has a similar form factor but forgoes the QWERTY keyboard for a traditional phone keypad hidden below the surface of the phone and packs a musical surprise. In addition to new Walkman software optimized for the UIQ phone and its large touch screen, the W950 houses 4 GB of flash memory. The W950 has a 2.6″ QVGA screen, jog wheel, Bluetooth including A2DP, and triband GSM/GPRS plus UMTS 2100 in a 15 mm thick package like the one announced last week for the M600. Like the M600, the W950 also lacks a camera. In addition Sony Ericsson announced a compatible Bluetooth stereo headset, the HBH DS970, which allows for control and playback of both music and phone functions trough stereo earphones. The DS970 is compatible with all A2DP / AVRC handsets including the SE P900, M600, W950 and K610.

Confirming rumors and speculation of a new Sony Ericsson handset with a QWERTY keypad, the company has today announced the M600 UMTS compatible smartphone.

The second handset in Sony Ericsson’s line-up featuring Symbian OS 9.1 and UIQ 3.0, the Sony Ericsson M600 is a very thin and stylish business device. Along with a keypad similar to that seen on the Blackberry 7100 series, the handset features a QVGA touch sensitive screen and Bluetooth wireless technology, though paying homage to its business design, does not feature a camera.

On top of POP/IMAP/SMTP email support, the Sony Ericsson M600 supports a full range of push email solutions, including AlteXia, Ericsson Mobile Office, iAnywhere OneBridge, Intellisync, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, BlackBerry Connect, Seven, and Visto.

The Sony Ericsson M600 will be available in two different colors – Granite Black and Crystal White – and will be released with several different keyboard variants, including QWERTY, QWERTZ, AZERTY, and Russian. Expect both the M600c (for mainland China) and the M600i (for everywhere else) to ship during Q2 this year.

When I saw the headline this morning, I really thought that Sony Ericsson has launched the P990, but it wasn’t so. Actually, they revealed new features of their Wi-Fi enabled UMTS smartphone.

Features include a 262.000 color QVGA touch screen, push email, WLAN, Bluetooth 2.0, USB, Symbian 9.1 and UIQ 3.0 software platform, music player that supports MP3, AAC and AAC+ formats with a flight mode allowing you to listen to music while the phone is turned off.

Sony Ericsson has turned the P990’s 2 megapixel camera with autofocus into a Business Card Scanner, which uses a character recognition software to convert the scanned information from the card to contacts on your P990.

The Sony Ericsson P990 will contain 80MB of internal memory and 64MB will be located in the box. When this smartphone was first announced, the company said it only had a slot for 4GB removable memory. It seems that they’ve decided to double that, slot for up to 8 GB now being available.

The P990 will hopefully become available in Q2 2006. No price information revealed.

Pharos Introduces GPS Pocket PC With Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Pharos Science & Applications, Inc. introduced the Pharos Traveler GPS 525, the first Pocket GPS to include WiFi, Bluetooth, and Windows Mobile 5.0 software. The device is also among the smallest integrated wireless GPS devices in the industry.

The Pharos Traveler GPS 525 is available now and comes preloaded with the top 50 U.S. metropolitan maps and Skype for Pocket PC.

“Navigation assistance is something every business traveler needs, but current standalone GPS devices are big and bulky, making them unsuitable for briefcases and plane travel. The new Pharos Traveler GPS 525 is the size of a mobile phone and sets up in rental cars in just minutes, offering turn by turn directions with voice prompts that save valuable time while on the road,” said Christina Shires, Director of Marketing, Pharos.

The Pharos Traveler GPS 525 also incorporates the highly sensitive SiRFstarIII GPS receiver. This receiver offers rapid time-to-first-fix and high sensitivity.

The Pharos Traveler GPS 525 is powered by a vehicle’s cigarette lighter adapter but also has an internal, rechargeable Li-Ion battery that provides approximately four hours of navigation for use in a bus, taxi or while walking in metropolitan areas.

It comes with a 512 MB SD card including preloaded maps of top 50 U.S. Metropolitan areas, Pharos GPS Ostia navigation software, and Skype for Pocket PC. It is based on a SC32442X 300 MHz processor, with 64MB ROM, 128 MB RAM. The display has 240 x 320 pixels (QVGA) resolution.

The Pharos Traveler GPS 525 will have a initial price of US$599.95.
